Bought a lottery but forgot to check the results, the 55-year-old woman only knew she won $3 million after accidentally opening the spam mailbox to find a missed email.
Laura Spears, 55, of Oakland County, Michigan (USA) said she purchased a Mega Millions lottery ticket on the Michigan Lottery website for the December 31, 2021 draw.
"I saw an ad on Facebook saying the Mega Millions jackpot was going up quite high, so I signed up for an account and bought a ticket," she told CNN.
However, the woman forgot that she bought the ticket and did not try to check the results. A few days later, when she needed to find an email sent by a friend, Ms. Spears checked her spam folder and saw the winning email. The sequence of numbers that Ms. Spears chose matched the 5 winning numbers of the $1 million prize, plus a cumulative multiplier that multiplied the prize by 3 times.
"I couldn't believe what I was reading, so I logged into my account to confirm the message in the email. It was all still too much for me. I actually won 3 million USD (over 3 million USD). 68 billion dong)", she said excitedly.
Last weekend, Ms. Spears went to the lottery company to claim her prize. The woman revealed that she plans to share the winnings with her family and plans to retire early.
